FORUM: /r/12panel 12-panel (12-panel) is a variant of the standard shogi playing pieces. Each playing piece represents a different color. A board in 12-panel consists of a surface of 12 panels (or'strips'), the 'top row' and 'bottom row' of which are identical, being made up of the king, the four non-adjacent warriors, and the four non-adjacent knights. The playing pieces are'set in motion' by means of a mechanical device. Each turn consists of moving each piece along the board one'stripe' at a time. A special symbol indicates when a player has won. 12-panel has more rules than shogi, but less than many other variants of shogi. RULES: 12-panel, also known as 12-stripe chess, is a chess variant invented in 1920 by German chess player Efim Bogoljubow. A 12-panel chessboard consists of 12 (typically painted) horizontal lines on which two sets of 8 playing pieces are placed: on the top and bottom lines the pieces have the same colors, but they are of different types. Each turn a player moves each of the pieces along the board one line at a time; in
